Band History

A Rich Heritage and Legacy

Under the direction of Mr. Jared Davis, in 2012, the marching band at Vance High School transitioned from a corps style band into the high stepping, show style band that it is today. This is when the Vance Cougar Marching Band (VCMB), also know as the "Royal Sound of the South," was created. In 2021, the name of our high school was changed to Julius L. Chambers High School also changing the name of the marching band to the Julius Chambers Marching Band (JCMB). In 2021, the band program also received a new band director, Mr. Joseph T. Wilson who is also a 2003 alumni of Vance High School. Mr. Wilson is committed to both upholding and adding to the rich heritage and legacy that has already been established prior to his arrival! Under Mr. Wilson's leadership thus far, the JCMB has participated in all of the football and home basketball games to support our football and basketball teams, school performances, community performances, and performed as the stand in pep band for USC Upstate during their NCAA Big South Basketball Tournament! The JCMB is continuing to rebuild from COVID and looking forward to participating in various high school band competitions, college and city parades, and band battles. As we press forward to become the best band in the land, JCMB is Continuing the Legacy that has preceded it and will never rest in our pursuit!
